Eclectic DIY Backyard Wedding | Cassie + Tobias

September 2, 2018

Cassie and Tobias’ DIY backyard wedding was both heartfelt and eclectic and brimming with sentiment. It’s pretty easy to tell that they are both artists. They included so much of themselves into all of the details. From the invitations Cassie hand painted, to the wild florals her sister pieced together, and the lapel pins Tobias designed for his groomsmen, to the lace top of Cassie’s wedding dress made by her mother. Cassie hand lettered all of the signs while her father constructed the ceremony site. They even designed their own wedding website. One of our favorite details of this DIY backyard wedding had to have been Cassie’s barefoot sandals. If you don’t know what barefoot sandals are, you can get an idea of them here. We love the feel of a barefoot bride. You honestly can’t get more laid back and free spirited than that!

Weddings can often be a whirlwind and it’s hard to spend the entire day a part from the person you’re about to marry. That’s why “first looks” have become so popular these days. But sometimes a couple wants to be able to be with their future spouse while still sticking to the traditions. A great way to do this is by doing a “no look first  look”. Cassie and Tobias accomplished the most beautiful “no look first look” by tying a necktie around Tobias’ eyes so that he couldn’t see her. This allowed them to pray together and hug one another before they walked down the aisle. And let me tell you, there wasn’t a dry eye around. It was such a powerful and emotional moment. Probably our favorite moment of the day.

After praying together, they exchanged vows in the backyard of Cassie’s childhood home in Arlington, Texas, while two of their best friends performed some of their favorite songs. The reception was picnic style with friends and family scattered on blankets along the yard. The feeling was romantic and fun but also very laid back. We may have even jumped on the trampoline a bit 😉

Here are a few of our very favorite moments-
